Material choice also plays a significant role. Different plastics vary in price, strength, heat resistance, and processing behavior. Common resins such as polypropylene or ABS are usually more affordable, while engineering-grade materials cost more. In addition to raw material cost, waste and material efficiency affect the final price. Parts with thicker walls or larger volumes require more material, which raises production expenses.

Production volume is another important consideration. Injection molding becomes more cost-effective as quantity increases because the mold cost is spread across more parts. For small batches, the cost per part may be relatively high due to tooling amortization. For large orders, however, the unit price drops significantly, making injection molding an attractive option for high-volume manufacturing.

Labor and machine operation also contribute to total cost. These include setup time, mold maintenance, machine running time, and quality inspection. Automated systems can reduce labor expenses, but energy consumption and machine depreciation still add to the overall cost. Cycle time is especially important: shorter cycle times allow more parts to be produced in less time, lowering the cost per unit.

Additional factors such as post-processing, packaging, and shipping can further influence the final price. Some parts require trimming, assembly, painting, or surface finishing, all of which add labor and time. If the part design is optimized for manufacturability, these extra costs can often be reduced.

To control injection molding cost, manufacturers often simplify part geometry, select materials carefully, and design molds for efficient production. Proper planning during the early stages can lead to significant savings later. In summary, injection molding cost is shaped by tooling, materials, volume, labor, and design complexity. A clear understanding of these factors helps businesses make smarter manufacturing decisions and achieve better cost efficiency.
